Dear Prayer Warriors,

It is really amazing to see Brian's joyful heart so significantly ever since he turned 18 years old.
He feels the Holy Spirit filled him with joy.
He appreciates everything and always has smile on his face now.
Thanks God for giving him this precious birthday gift.

Thanks for all of your spending time and blessings on Sunday Brian's 18th Birthday.
There are many of you who sent him cards and some of you even came to stop by to send him gifts.
Thank you so much for your encouragement and caring love.
We thank our church families who celebrated with us on Sunday after service, sharing the cake with us and blessing
Brian and our family.
We also want to thanks Brian's childhood friends, aunties/ uncles, and church friends who came to celebrate with us at home.
You all contributed to Brian's joy. Really appreciate!

We went to CHLA Monday afternoon for his PICC line dressing change. He kept the joy face all the time.
RN Susie said, " I can see your smile by watching your eyes even
though you are wearing a mask."
Dr. Gaynon, Dr. Sun, and Sherri are so happy for him too.

Please pray the Joy of Holy Spirit stays with Brian permanently.
Let it accompany him to go through all the treatment in the future. Also pray for the joy and peace in all of us too.

Today we will go to hospital for 2nd part of chemo. It will start at 9pm. to 12am. tonight for 2 days.
His counts will drop and recover in around 3 weeks while the chemo destroys the bad cells.

Please keep praying for the best.

God bless us all,

Mark & Anita

Dear prayer warriors,

Thank you for your prayer. We are home sweet home since last night.
Our lovely Dr. Sun told Brian to go home right after his last chemo dose (first part of chemo) was done at noon 12pm. yesterday.
It's really hard for me as a mom to discharge from hospital with fever still spiking. But Dr. Sun very sure (99.9% sure, she said).
"This fever is from chemo's side effect and it's ok to go home for this symptom will go away within 24 hours. Stay home during the break will be better for recovery than in hospital. HGB 8.5. We can give him a bag of blood to help him more energetic. It's OK to go home today. Come back next Wednesday for 2nd part of chemo. Then you will need to stay for few weeks." she said. " Go home earlier to prepare the celebration for Sunday his big birthday. He will be an adult then."
Brian's ANC is good (2.2k). It's better than the day when chemo started which is 3 days ago. Mark agreed and Brian loved to go home too even though I had concerns.
So we left hospital last night. Fever still when we drove home at 9:30pm.
The fever kept happening 38.3c, 39c, 37.7c 39.1c with Tylenol only ( no antibiotic) last night and this morning until 10am. He sweated and the temperature started to come down. 37.7c, 37.2c, 36.9c, 36.6c..... He ate lunch ( udon soup) and just finished shower. He looks normal and back to regular routine now. Daddy just brought home his favorite
"Ajisen Miso Ramen". Dinner with movie family time. Home sweet home!
Thanks Dr. Sun for her boldly pushing us home.
Wow! 18, you'll be an official " grown-up", Deena said.

Happy 18th birthday! Celebrate tomorrow!

God bless us all,

Mark & Anita

Your helping hands in HIM

Dear Prayer Warriors,

Brian is in CHLA doing 3rd dose of chemo now. It started last night.
But the fever happen this morning. They said that's very common for this kind of chemo arac.

His platelet grow by itself during the week we were home from 17k to 30k.
They gave him platelet before installing the PICC line for him becaus it require 50K to do the procedure.
As I said that the hospital schedule sometime change, we need to has the flexibility to adjust ourselves to work with it.
The NPO ( no food for 8 hours started at 4am.) for anesthesia plan changed after the Child Life Ashley came in to convience Brian to do it awake. Brian agreed to do
it without sleeping. It took around 30 minutes to do that procedure this afternoon.
The PICC line installation keep bothering me since they pull out his PICC line last time. I don't know why God Guided me to go to downstair to ask Brian's medical history report while he was doing that procedure
I noticed a very special painting when I talked to the staff. It said " Your helping hands in HIM ". Wow! It is. There were at least 10 helping hands in that room to help him. The procedure was done successfully after 30 minutes. I didn't really need those history report for it will takes few weeks. I just came to that room to see that picture. God is so true! Thanks Lord.

Now the day2 chemo dose 1 is running. It will done tomorrow. The fever is bothering Brian now.

Let's pray for Brian
1. His body can tolerate the chemo and the fever will go away after that.
2. This chemo will destroy all the left leukemia cell.

Let's shift our focus from this limited realm and start looking at God’s supernatural realm, we’ll see His unlimited possibilities for Brian's future.
Take the limits off by setting our thoughts on what Almighty God can do in our life.

In Jesus name, Amen!

God bless you,

Mark & Anita

Dear prayer warriors,

Brian had checked in CHLA this afternoon. We are in the hospital room now.

Dr. Gaynon wants to do the chemo with peripheral IV as soon as tonight. And the Picc line will install tomorrow at 1:30pm. Dr. Gaynon wants to help him to stay home to celebrate his 18th birthday.
All the sudden lots of schedule changes to fit the possibility to get home by Sunday his birthday for few days break.
Thanks God, flexibility is one of our family traits.
Thanks Doctors and medical team are so nice to make him happy as much as they can.
We are blessed to have such good doctor to love him so much. We also talked to Dr. Gaynon for lots of details about his treatment plan in the future. We can tell Dr. Gaynon is very sincere to deal Brian's case.
I remember Mark ever asked Dr. Gaynon to cure and treat Brian's disease as for his own son.
Now I really feel Dr. Gaynon really did that way. He wants to find the best way to get rid of the leukemia to make himself happy too. ( This is what he said.)
The plan now is:
The chemo will start tonight at 9pm. till 12am. for the 1st dose.Tomorrow 9 am. till 12pm. for 2nd dose. Repeat this for another day. It means chemo's first part will be done on Friday afternoon.
The day3 to day7 is break time. And 2nd part of chemo will be the same dose at day8 & day9.

Please pray for the best.
1. Chemo successful. No fever. No complication.
2. PICC line installation tomorrow will succeed too .

Thank you.

God bless us all,

Mark & Anita

3:00PM.  On the way home from hospital, we called Sherri ( Brian's case manager) to ask her email the detail CBC lab report and also the cytogenic.    She said, " Dr. Gaynon said you can do what ever you want now.    The same chemo will start next week.   You can celebrate your birtheday at home."

Aug. 12 is Brian's 18 Birthday.     There are so many people to invite to see and talk.

Brian's childhood buddy Ken and family came from Taiwan.   2 families and friends (Dr. Gordon and Mia from Irvine)  had a good dinner time at home.      2 doctors ( Uncle Simon & uncle Gordon)  concerned Brian's recovery.   " Are you tired ?",they asked.    But Brian was too excited to have so many good friends to enjoy.    won't be tired at all.

Memories from old pictures,  fun and joy tallk.   All of us never felt tired and didn't want to finish.

We experienced how God planed all of the people around us long ago.    He made us know each others to work for His good.

God directed uncle Gordon appeared in our life again after he met Ken's mom ( Li-Xiang) 2 month ago in Taiwan.

Long story short, God sent Dr. Gordon came to our life to use his medical profession and his compassion in God to accompany Mark, Brian, and me to pray together in so many nights to encourage and ensure hope, peace, and joy to our heart.    Everything work together for His good.

Just as all of you come to this blog and pray for us in this journey.   It all comes God's good work.

May God bless all of us more abundantly.

Thanks all of your faithful prayer. You guys made our day too.
Praise and glory to the Lord!

We are waiting to go to OR bone marrow aspirate and biopsy procedure in minutes.

Please pray for the medical team to do the procedure smoothly and successfully.

God is in control. God reminds me to double check the procedure detail and they didn't order biopsy.

Thanks God to let me notice it and also thanks our primary Dr. Gaynon.
I heard that he talked to nurse that he didn't come to this OR floor in 14 years. He came to see Brian because he didn't see him and his lab report since last Thursday.    He also asked us to sign a consent form to draw extra tube of bone marrow for research study in case he needs to use another new drug for next chemo if the test see bad cell.       Dr. Gaynon said," Brian's looks good and his blood report shows good too.   But we never know how's the inside except the sample.      If it is remission, then we throw away this extra bone marrow." .

I reply immediately, " God is good.   It will show Remission.    We keep praying."

There is no fever at Saturday and Sunday after Infectious disease Dr. Ross changed the antibiotic.

Thanks for your prayer.

They check Brian's blood everyday.

And today his platelet is too low (10K). They will give him platelet later.   Pray for no allergic reaction.

PICC line installation will not be schedules until his fever was cleared after 24 hours.    Since Brian had a fever this early morning, they said it need to be observed and wait until his temperature is stablized.    Probablly Wednesday or later.

They use temperatary IV to give him med.   But drawing blood will need to poke him everytime they do.   That's why the PICC line play an important roll during his hospitalization.

These few days, his bonemarrow is starting to produce some white cell and red.    His blood type has changed to Vivain's A+.

Pray for Vivian's new marrow in Brian's body can grow quick and healthy.    No more Leukemia.    Remission!

Please keep praying.   Thank you.

 God bless you,

Mark & Anita

Brian is doing better today. He had fever from Monday. They check many thing but all the virus and bacteria test came out negative.

Finally the infectious diseases Dr. Ross came yesterday at 3:30pm. while Brian was starting to shiver and chill.
He changed the antibiotic to different med. at 5pm.
It worked good, I think.
Because the fever and chill happened less after that change.
They also found out his "PICC" line is in the wrong place through CT scan 2 days ago. The PICC line was installed a month ago the day we checked in.  It is possible this was the cause of shivering fever.    The nurse MJ just take out this PICC line now.

There are some other possibilities caused this infection. They treat him with many different anti biotic and anti fungal medications to cover all suspects. He looks much better today.
Please keep praying.
Pray for the temperature to stay normal and stablized.   And the new PICC line installation on Monday or Tuesday will be successful and in the right place.  Thank you.

God Bless You,

Mark & Anita

(F.B.Meyer)

(Exodus 14:15) Tell the Israelites to move on.

God told Moses to raise his staff and stretch out his hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can to through the sea on dry ground.

When you see God use one's "Faith" to stretch out his hand and make a wall of water, you will know God will fulfill it according to your " Faith".

(Psalm 29:10) The LORD sits enthroned over the flood: the LORD is enthroned as King forever.

Today is a regular day.    2 bags of blood A+ were givien to Brian last night.   He feels more energetic today.    No more jelly legs and hurting eyes.   Praise Lord!

Mom and Brian played air hocky in the teen lounge this afternoon.    Fun!

The hospital food menu are the same as always.    The only different is how you order it and create your own way, just as you see the show in food network chanel " iron chef".   Tonight we order meat loaf with grill onion, cheese, garlic bread and extra gravy.   It tastes like philiy cheese steak.  YUM.

Please keep praying for Brian with Joy and peace all the time.

God bless us all!

Chemo's done today.

Brian had chest pain last night before he went to sleep.   Doctor gave him a Zantac and the chest pain was gone.

No wonder they call it heart burn.

There was a fever after the chemo was done.    Tylenol helped to drop the temperture down to normal.

Thanks God.

We can hear the firework outside, but no energy to find a good view to watch it anyway.

It's the 1st time not seeing firwork on July 4th.

Brian said it's kind of celebrating the finish of chemo.

Wish the best for "remission" ( leukemia free for bone marrow test few weeks later).

Let's pray--

Dear Lord God, You are Brian's stronghold, light and salvation.   Brian does not fear because YOU are with Brian; if YOU are with Brian, who can be against Brian?   YOU will strengthen Brian and help Brian and uphold Brian with YOUR righteous right hand.   Take away all of Brian's fears.  Brian trust in YOU.  Please send your warrior angels to protect Brian and Brian's family.   Replace Brian's fear with faith, hope, and love.   Fill Brian with your peace, YOUR presence and YOUR protection.  I pray this in Jesus' name.   Amen.

Dear families and friends,

Dr. Gaynon allowed Brian to attend a senior party with some his old friends last night.

He had a good time.  Today and tomorrow are still easy days as usual.

The fight will start on Monday.   We'll get ready to fight again.   Please keep raising your hands  to pray for Brian.

Chemotherapy is the first month goal to kill the Leukemia cells.  Please pray for all the bad cell will be destroyed by the drug.

The remission will show the first round success.   Then Dr. Gaynon will give him 2nd round of chemo to completely clean it again.

This is the plan now.   Then they will decide how to do next plan.   There are some options-- bone marrow transplant or some other way of Donor Lymphocyte infusion........

May God grants our Dr. Gaynon the best wisdom for the regimen to cure the disease.   The nurses and medical team will have super nice and experiences to take care Brian.

Please pray the best result and the protection of Brian's body, the brain, skin, eyes, mouth, ear, heart, lung, liver, kidney, ........ ..

Let the drug kill only the bad cells, minimum the side effect, and prevent any infection.

Let's Pray--

" Thank you Lord,  You are Brian's Deliverer, Fortress, and Refuge.  Brian takes refuge in the shadow of Your wings.   Though enemies surround Brian, You will protect Brian and rescue Brian.   Brian wait patiently for You: You will bring Brian up from the desolate pit and set Brian's feet on a secure place to stand.  You will repay for Brian the years the locusts have eaten.  You will take away all the shame.  Brian will have plenty to eat and be satisfied.  You will put a new song in Brian's mouth and lift Brian out of despair.   Brian will sing hymns of praise to You,

Brian's Savior and Brian's God.   Fill Brian with Your faithful love, mercy, power, and truth.

Father in heaven,  I choose to believe Your Word and trust that You are working behind the scenes on Brian's behalf.  I give You all the praise and glory.

In Jesus’ name.  Amen!

Transfusion appointment is 9:00am.

The blood drawing showed the platelet is 19K which is higher than 16K 2 days ago.

" No need to transfuse today.   You can have fun over the weekend.   Come back on Monday to start the chemo.",  said Dr. Gaynon.

Sherri, our case manager, arranged Sdonna to check Brian's arm and vein.

" We will do the anesthesia for you before the pic line procedure.   Then you will check in with Admitting.

Somebody will call you tomorrow to make sure the time for Monday.  "

Dear Prayer Warriors,

We all expected for  the miracle and no need to repeat that treatment again.

But that's not God's plan.   His thought is higher than ours.

Many of us felt disappointed for the report showed that his platelet is lower than last Thursday.

That means the leukemia is attacking the platelet.

The treatment plan is to do the chemotherapy for 2 rounds.    Remission is the goal.

There are some options  for BMT.....

Even though we are frustrated,  but the Almighty God reminded us as

Hebrews 10:35-39

35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

37 For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.”[a]

38 And, “But my righteous[b] one will live by faith.   And I take no pleasure  in the one who shrinks back.”[c]

39 But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.

Let's keep praying for the best.    Victory!

In Jesus name,

Amen!
